Cool Cleaning Hack for Enameled Cast Iron
Hi! I’m Tiger and I'm excited to share my first blog entry with you!
A common situation with enameled cast iron is that the inner surface can become discolored and more challenging to clean after many uses or after searing meat. I knew there had to be a product that could do a more thorough job resolving this issue. Something along the lines of what Barkeeper's Friend does for stainless steel was my inspiration. Recently, while cleaning the glass cook top on our stove, I thought the same cleaner I use may be usable on enameled finishes. Why not? Glass cook tops are similar enough to enameled cookware finishes, and the cleaner is non-abrasive, so it shouldn’t harm the finish. So after discussing my idea with Hawk, we decided I would test Weiman Glass Cook Top Cleaner and Polish on our next opportunity. In my typical fashion, I tore into my project without taking the requisite “before" picture. So please forgive me for starting your visual experience with an in-process photo.
As you can see, the cook top cleaner performed as I had hoped. Though it didn’t completely eliminate the discoloration, the result was more than acceptable. Enough so that I will add occasional scrubbing with glass cooktop cleaner to my care routine. We don’t use cast iron cookware for the performance alone, but also for the aesthetic. There is something about cast iron, whether enameled or uncoated, that gives us a comforting expectation of a meal prepared with loving care, which enhances the experience of dining. So, what do you think? What’s your favorite product to clean enameled cast iron?
