A Sweet and Tasty Weekend
We had a very uplifting Gospel Brunch this afternoon, despite the intermittent rain sprinkles! As you can see, Nancy (the Bluetooth speaker of our house, lol) is there in the background. But how can you not see those doughnuts!!! Those are GF Buttermilk Brioche Doughnuts, glazed with vanilla cream glaze. You can see how toothsome the crumb is. It really was a pleasure to bite into, and it was perfect with cold, traditionally prepared kava and black coffee. I also wanted you to see the picture-perfect Vanilla-Almond French Toast with pure maple syrup and grass-fed butter (that sounds so weird… anyway,). The bread I made it from is my own recipe of a bread I bake in a Pullman pan, a perfectly rectangular pan with straight sides and a lid. Supposedly, they were designed for use in the Pullman dining cars on passenger trains in the OLD days. It's something you all may want to invest in, if you love that traditional American square shape. I love it sometimes, because it makes really elegant sandwiches. And if you don’t like the crusts, the square shape wastes less of the bread, when you need it cut perfectly square. Did that make any sense??? I just love making French toast and pancakes in my Lodge cast iron skillet. Once you get cast iron good and seasoned, it is naturally nonstick, which is a huge deal, considering the really bad news that's been recently going on about Teflon nonstick coating, microplastics, and how microplastics are entering the body through them. Anyway (tangent...), I'll share a recipe or two in the future. Just wrapping up some important details, then I'll tell the stories of how they came to be.
By the way, isn't the moon beautiful tonight?! It will be full on Tuesday morning, around 6 a.m., but it's going to look full tomorrow night. Just some side trivia, there will be a full lunar eclipse over New Zealand for the very first time on our Election night. Hmm...let's see how that shakes out...
